The ceremony under analysis is an example of the perfect blend of modernity and tradition. Form and being unite to give way to another moment in the history of a country whose political foundations were thoughtfully forged in the annals of the 12th century, through the signing of the so-called "Pareatges," pacts that laid the foundation for the current political structure of the Principality of Andorra and were signed by the two lords of the Andorran valleys. The visual image of power is clearly reflected in a ceremony based on the rites, traditions, and customs of a people who have understood and defended their history, their lands, and their traditions. An analysis of the solemn inauguration ceremony of the Episcopal Co-Prince of Andorra demonstrates the importance of protocol and ceremony as a legitimizing element of power and in transmitting values and traditions with centuries of history.
