THE SUICIDE MOON. THE ULTRAIST CORPUS / BODY IN THE POETRY OF LUCÍA SÁNCHEZ SAORNIL

Resumen

Sánchez Saornil tenía ya, cuando se aventuró en las lides de Ultra, una amplia trayectoria como poeta modernista, de la que hubo de abjurar para abrazar el nuevo credo vanguardista. Las imágenes de destrucción, de muerte y de suicidio, que pueblan sus poemas en este período —la más significativa quizás sea la de la “luna suicida”—, evidencian que el tránsito no fue fácil, que la acucia el temor de no hallar esa nueva voz, y que, a pesar del sentimiento de pertenencia a la hermandad ultraísta, a pesar de su conexión con otros jóvenes poetas que, como ella, asumían el ingente reto de cambiarlo todo, quizás por su condición de mujer, no terminaba de encontrar un lugar en esta hermandad. Pues bien, estas circunstancias le confieren a la poesía ultraísta de Sánchez Saornil una singularidad excepcional dentro del movimiento Ultra.

Abstract: Sánchez Saornil already had, when she ventured into the work of Ultra, an extensive career as a modernist poet, which she had to renounce to embrace the new avant-garde creed. The images of destruction, death and suicide that populate her poems in this period —perhaps the most significant is that of the “suicidal moon”— show that the transition was not easy, that she was driven by the fear of not finding that new voice, and that, despite the feeling of belonging to the ultraist brotherhood, despite her connection with other young poets who, like her, took on the enormous challenge of changing everything, perhaps because of her condition as a woman, she could not find a place in this brotherhood. Well, these circumstances give Sánchez Saornil’s ultraist poetry an exceptional singularity within the Ultra movement.
