The strong rhythmic constraints of classical versifi cation have evolved in contemporary versifi cation towards total freedom. While classical versifi cation, by rhythmic constraints and syntactic permutations, sometimes makes access to meaning diffi cult, contemporary versifi cation on the contrary makes access to poetic meaning easier by optimizing the use of cognitive mechanisms of readers and listeners by intonation and pauses.
