Reformulación de los conceptos de resistencia e incumplimiento en la terapia cognitiva

Resumen

A pesar de su éxito general , no todo el mundo responde igual a la terapia cognitiva. Algunos clientes muestran dificultades para llevar a cabo sus tareas y otros parece que ofrecen resistencia. Este artículo considera las estrategias para tratar el incumplimiento pasivo y la resistencia activa dentro de la terapia cognitiva. Generalmente, se argumenta que permanecer dentro del modelo cognitivo facilita el proceso de la terapia –es decir, explorando y trabajando estas creencias y actitudes que fundamentan el incumplimiento y resistencia de la misma forma que se enfocan otras creencias y actitudes problemáticas. También se tienen en cuenta las estrategias para tratar las expectativas poco realistas respecto al ritmo de cambio, los errores de los terapeutas que llevan al incumplimiento y a la resistencia y los casos en los que el modelo terapéutico es simplemente insuficiente.
