This article examines the long-standing, albeit sometimes tenous, relationship between the dream phenomenon and the cognitive therapy tradition. It argues that A. T. Beck used psychonalytic approaches to dream as launching pad from which to form the rudiments of his neo cognitive therapy, but that he encounterd theoretical and pratical difficulties that ultimately made further exploration of the dream phenomenon within the burgeoning cognitive therapy, however, are offering solutions to some of A. T. Beck’s theoretical dilemmas, and as such are providing neo roads for theoretical and clinical exploration of the dream phenomenon within a constructivist cognitive context.
