The emotional experience of a child in migration and refugee received in São Paulo: a case study

International displacement has become a global problem due to armed conflicts, sociopolitical and environmental crises, which increase extreme socioeconomic vulnerability. This research was qualitative and descriptive in nature, emphasizing the clinical method. It was carried out in a shelter for migrants and asylum seekers in the city of São Paulo. The instruments used were semi-structured interviews and the Procedure of Drawing Story with Theme. The discussion of fragments of a clinical case of a 12-year-old Venezuelan boy and his family, who had recently arrived in Brazil. It was understood that although the experiences of migration and refuge are social phenomena, their experience is complex and personal and, in order to understand them, pre- and post-migration experiences must be taken into account. There are references to the experiences of grief that come with migration, in which feelings of sadness and joy intertwine. This interweaving is also related to her family history, which predates the migration. The techniques used were considered adequate, since it was understood that the psychological support offered in the destination country can favor the process of working through conflicts related to the overall experience of migration.
