This paper discusses the therapist's experience in experiential personal construct psychotherapy. First, the nature of ROLE relationships is developed based upon Kelly's Sociality Corollary. The theoretical foundations of experiential personal construct psychotherapy then are elaborated by combining the Sociality and Choice Corollaries. The theoretical concept of optimal therapeutic distance, along with the concepts of "therapeutic" strangers and "therapeutic" unity, are discussed in terms of their implications for the experience of therapist and client in psychotherapy. The paper concludes with a discussion of the validation and invalidation of therapist constructions as well as the implications of Experiential Personal Construct Psychotherapy for the personal growth of the therapist.
