Poder, autoridad y relación terapéutica

Este artículo estudia el concepto, desde un punto de vista histórico y multidisciplinar, de poder y autoridad, así como la relación que tienen con el desarrollo de la relación terapéutica en el ámbito sanitario en general y en el de la Salud Mental en particular. Una buena relación profesional – usuario facilita el cumplimiento terapéutico, reduce las recaídas, la gravedad de las mismas y mejora el funcionamiento psicosocial. Para lograrla es necesario evitar el rechazo ante el poder del profesional e incrementar, desde el punto de vista del usuario, el prestigio y el estatus de autoridad asociado al conocimiento y trabajo del mismo.
