Abstract

The article reviews the controversies that have occurred in the field of psychotherapy. These controversies are framed both in scientific points of view and in the perspective of material interests that affect the practice of psychotherapy. The issues of absolute and differential efficacy, research findings and biases, common factors, and the situation of psychotherapy training are reviewed and it concludes with some research-based recommendations for the practice of psychotherapy.
