Abstract

The aim of this article is to integrate the different contributions from the field of attachment to improve understanding of the development of borderline personalities, as well as to use this perspective, in a transversal manner, to organize and structure the necessary adjustments in the usual technique in psychotherapy and increase effectiveness. A widening of the understanding of the origin of these disorders is proposed, beyond the critical period around the second year of life, introducing a dimensional perspective and considering the complexity of the different stages of development. The proposed therapeutic adjustments are organized in two areas: the construction of the therapy and the work on the therapeutic relationship, paying special attention to the alliance´s rupture and repair cycles. Finally, it is proposed as a hypothesis the convenience of considering different forms of organization, hidden under the general label of disorganization, making interventions more specific, thus increasing the effectiveness of generic technique.
