Abstract

Llorenç Villalonga Pons was one of the most successful figures in
Catalan literature in twentieth-century in Mallorca. His novelist production
was recognized both within the Catalan-speaking areas and throughout the
Spanish territory until he was consecrated as one of the main exponents of Catalan letters of the last century. In the present article, a comparative study of the
novel Bearn o la sala de les nines is carried out which led to the success of the

author and marked a before and after in his career as a writer. This study aims
to analyse the differences seen between the Catalan version and the Spanish
version of the novel, based on changes, incorporations and deletions of text
in order to clarify which of the two versions was written in the first instance.
