PROLOPE’S Digital Editions: between the Digital and the Digitized Edition

The concept of digital edition continues to be a subject of debate in the evolution of digital humanities. Experts have yet to agree on the parameters that should make up these editions. This in turn has brought with it a level of freedom in the use of the concept, which is giving rise to hybrid forms and pseudoeditions, all markedly different. The project, PROLOPE, amongst others, holds several editions of this sort in its library, most notably, La dama boba and Mujeres y Criados by Lope de Vega. Both editions have been labelled as digital editions, even though the differences between the two remains significant. This article will examine and evaluate the purpose of these two digital editions, and will conclude by proposing a theory about the development of those digital editions with regards for the future.
