El proyecto de investigación titulado "Prosopografía de los Ulemas de al-Andalus", dirigido por M. Luisa Ávila en un primer período, y después por Luis Molina, ambos investigadores de la Escuela de Estudios Árabes de Granada (CSIC), tuvo su comienzo en el año 2011 con el propósito de extraer toda la información existente en las fuentes árabes relativa a la figura de los "ulemas" andalusíes. Esta base de datos, que se ha llevado a cabo bajo el apoyo de dos proyectos de investigación de ámbito nacional, está todavía en desarrollo y abierto a colaboraciones externas. A través de su importante aplicación fratuita online se tiene acceso a una importante información de personajes andalusíes que formaron parte de la sociedad islámica occidental de los siglos VIII al XV.
