About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista de escritoras ibéricas (ISSN 2340-9029) is dedicated to the study of women writers from the Iberian Peninsula, from any historical period and within any rigorous methodological framework—whether from a historical perspective or through epistemological inquiry. The journal welcomes work on all literary genres, peninsular languages, and types of texts.

Each issue may include articles of up to 25 pages (10,000 words) as well as reviews, provided they relate to the journal's field of study. Submissions are accepted in any of the official languages of the Iberian Peninsula as well as in English, and are subject to peer review—an essential process to ensure the scientific standards and quality required in the field.

This journal gives visibility to and promotes the exchange of rigorous scientific proposals within the field of gender literary studies, with attention to languages and cultures that coexist in close contact but are often ignored by each other.

The publication is free for both those who submit their work and those who wish to read it. The entire creation and distribution process is electronic, maintaining the same quality standards as print publications, but exponentially increasing its impact through the immediate and free distribution of its content and shortening publication waiting times.

The journal meets all national and international quality requirements for a high-impact publication, both in terms of its scientific or editorial boards and the process of selecting contributions, as well as the information and editing of each issue. Readers are free to download, reproduce, distribute, print, search, and link to articles without prior permission from the journal's editors or the authors, as long as proper citation and respect for scientific copyright are maintained.

 Peer Review Process

All submissions must be original and unpublished, address specific research questions, clearly state their contribution to existing knowledge in the field, and explain the critical methodology employed in the study.

Each submission that aligns with the journal's thematic, academic, and formal framework, as well as with the basic standards for publishable research, will be reviewed by two external reviewers independent of the publishing entity. In the case of disagreement, a third reviewer will be involved. Their suggestions will be sent to the author for necessary revisions, in accordance with scientific quality criteria. The Editorial Board will make the final decision based on the reviewers' reports. The review process follows a double-blind model, maintaining the anonymity of both the author and the reviewers. The journal’s editorial team will inform the author of the acceptance or rejection of the submission within a maximum period of six months. All published articles will include the dates of submission and publication. Each issue of Revista de Escritoras Ibéricas is finalized within the calendar year.

There are no publication fees for authors.

Publication Frequency

The journal publishes one issue per year, which includes all accepted contributions, regardless of their submission date.

Preservation Policy

Digital preservation is understood as a set of processes and activities that ensure information currently stored in digital formats is backed up and distributed in a way that guarantees long-term, continuous access. The journal relies on the support of the IT Services Center (CSI) at UNED, which is responsible for preservation through regular backups.

Additionally, the journal is part of the private LOCKSS network of the Public Knowledge Project (PKP-PLN):

The preservation policy also includes the assignment of DOIs to the journal title, each issue, and every individual article.

Authorship (CRediT Taxonomy)

As part of its commitment to an ethical, transparent, and fair publishing process, Revista de Escritoras Ibéricas has adopted the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to describe the individual contributions of each author to the submitted work.

CRediT was introduced to recognize individual author contributions, reduce authorship disputes, and encourage collaboration.

This taxonomy allows authors to provide an accurate and detailed account of their specific roles in the published work.

The corresponding author submitting the manuscript is responsible for detailing the contributions of all authors using the CRediT taxonomy and for stating the criteria used to determine the order of authorship. All authors are expected to have reviewed, discussed, and agreed upon their individual contributions prior to submission. These contributions, which must accurately reflect each author’s role, will be published alongside the final article.

Editorial Best Practices on Gender Equality

Revista de Escritoras Ibéricas promotes gender equality in the composition of its Scientific Committee, Advisory Board, and team of reviewers. Among other measures to support equality and prevent gender-based discrimination, the journal includes the following:

  • Authors must provide their full name (not just initials) to make authorial identity visible.
  • During metadata entry, the journal encourages authors to include information about the gender of the contributor(s).
  • Inclusive language will be used in editorial content whenever possible:

Inclusive language that acknowledges diversity conveys respect to all individuals, is sensitive to differences, and promotes equal opportunities—principles that are essential to the journal. Content should not make assumptions about the beliefs or commitments of any reader; should avoid any implication that one individual is superior to another based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability, or health status; and must use inclusive language throughout.

Authors should ensure that their writing is free from bias, stereotypes, jargon, dominant cultural references, and/or cultural assumptions. Gender neutrality is encouraged—for example, using plural nouns where possible to avoid "he/she" constructions. The use of personal descriptors should be avoided unless they are directly relevant and necessary.

Journal History

The Revista de Escritoras Ibéricas was born in 2012 from the collaboration between a group of researchers from Spain’s Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and the Universidade de Lisboa, all dedicated to the study of women’s writing, both historically and in the present day. Women's writing remains a subject of ongoing relevance—seemingly always new— although it has yet to be fully integrated into the academic canon, despite the existence of a critical tradition in Spain that dates back to the 1980s. Over time, some periodical publications on gender have emerged, addressing a wide range of topics, but none have been dedicated solely to literary studies or aimed to cover the entire Iberian scope.
