Abstract

The need of rebuild ‘the Escuadra’, destroyed in 1898, caused a political controversy that was used to abate the Sagasta, Silvela and Maura Cabinets. This last, despite the success achieved in 1907, was beset by the complaint of prevarication submitted by Macías del Real. A bitter parliamentary discussion took place with protest marches in La Carrera de San Jerónimo Street of Madrid. Luís Morote, despite suffering high personal and political costs, was asked to clarify the truth of the charges against the Maura Cabinet that emerged strengthened from the test.
