Abstract

This paper addresses Anthony Steinbock’s interpretation of generative phenomenology, and the methodological consequences of a reconfiguration of the relationship between genetic phenomenology and Generativity. To this end, the model of “territorial constitution” present in his work Home and Beyond is analysed, addressing the tension between the classical understanding of Husserlian phenomenology and its reinterpretation. It discusses how the non-foundational phenomenology proposed by Steinbock could transform phenomenological theory, examining critiques and methodological concerns in the specialist literature. Drawing on the liminal relation model, which Steinbock applies to the relation between the familiar world and the alien world, it is suggested that the relation between classical genetic and generative phenomenology be considered liminal, understanding this relation as one in which both approaches need and challenge each other.
