This article attempts to prove that «givenness» means «decision» in Jean-Luc Marion's Phenomenology. To do so, we first note that the word «givenness» has several possible meanings in the french thinker; this implies an evident difficulty of ambiguity, as well as serious consequences for the understanding of Marion's doctrine. Next, we discover that, starting from the «gift», the involvement of the gifted «subject» in the «givenness» as such brings us directly to the «decision» as the keyword to a clearer understanding of what the reduction leads to in Marion's work.
