This article examines the phenomenology developed by the Chilean philosopher Jorge Eduardo Rivera (1927-2017). First, some general characteristics of Rivera’s philosophy are highlighted. Then, the Heideggerian proposal of a hermeneutical turn of the Husserlian phenomenology formulated by Rivera is judged, focusing especially on the interpretation offered by Husserl and on other possibilities offered by the phenomenology. Thirdly, the university conception of Rivera’s philosophy is shown, and his identification of the dangers that lie in wait for universities, then suggesting other forms of university threats and other phenomenological alternatives to conceive the current university.
