The world wide web is already a source for information about health for many people. It is likely that in the future there will be more and more people who will seek to receive treatment from a health professional over the web. Currently, health professionals who are considering this new field of study are interested in identifying whether psychology (as a practical discipline) should or should not offer its services electronically or which specific features such e-therapists should possess. They are also concerned about how to establish clinical sessions that posses the qualities of face-to-face sessions including the therapeutic effectiveness while being delivered electronically. The electronic relationship will not substitute the face-to-face meeting but instead will complement or even will stimulate it. This new situation has led to the production of a new deontological code with new regulations considering the new technologies. As an example we review what Information and communication technologies (ICT) are offering for smoking cessation treatment.
