Abstract

This article describes the therapeutic process as a relationship of persons whereby both therapist and patient engage in a relationship of the “subject”. The goal of this relationship is not to heal “something”; rather it is to heal someone. The relationship explores the management of our human needs (to understand, love, create) and learn to integrate them into the patient´s universe. This world of needs does not shut down personal growth. Man and woman are subjects of desire, and only the achievement of this level of desire gives authentic human stature. Love, authentically and correctly understood, heals. Learning to love, to love oneself, and to love in a way that expands our personal horizons is both therapeutic and humanizing.   From a therapy centered on the “object” to that of one focused on the “subject”, there is a therapeutic road that Humanistic Psychology travels in the alliance or psychic link between therapist and patient.
