The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships between the Personal Style of the Therapist and Socioemotional Competencies. A quantitative approach was used, with a comparative, correlational, and predictive design. The sample consisted of 102 psychotherapists, who completed The Personal Style of the Therapist Questionnaire (PST-Q; Fernández-Álvarez & García, 1998; Castañeiras et al., 2008) and the Socioemotional Competencies Inventory (ICSE; Mikulic et al., 2015). Statistical analyses included group comparisons based on age, years of professional experience, and theoretical orientation, Spearman correlations, and binary logistic regression. No differences were found regarding age or professional experience, but significant differences emerged based on theoretical orientation. Statistically significant weak correlations were observed between some socioemotional competencies and dimensions of the personal style of the therapist. In addition, certain competencies predicted specific dimensions of personal style. These findings provide a starting point for future research to explore the nature and scope of these relationships in clinical settings.
