Abstract

For the simulation of the tooth contact of helical gears, a precise determination of the length of the line of contact is necessary, which is variable throughout the meshing cycle. This variation is influenced not only by the inclination of the lines, but also by their elongation due to the sooner start of contact induced by the teeth deflections under load, as well as by the reduction in this length due to profile modification. All of this influences the mesh stiffness, transmission error, and load sharing, which have a decisive influence on the dynamic behaviour of the transmission. In this work, an approximate, simple, and efficient model is presented for the simulation of the mesh stiffness, transmission error, and load sharing for helical gears with profile modification.
