We present a contribution to the Spanish intonation acquisition as second language for native English speakers. This contribution was carried out using the Plugin para el Análisis Fonético-Fonológico en español (PAFe), a software tool for instant comparative analysis of intonation of native and non-native speakers. In our study, we employed the Melodic Analysis of Speech methodology and PAFe's intersyllabic algorithm to identify which intonational elements of English learners of Spanish-male and female-present more tonal deviations. Our results indicate that English female learners present more deviations in the final inflection, while male learners in the body of the intonational contour. Such contrasts could hinder the acquisition of phonetic-phonological competence in Spanish for English learners. The origin of these difficulties is related to the fact that in declarative utterances English speakers tend to transfer certain melodic features from their L1.
