Abstract

This article focuses on the three books of poetry published by Susana March in the 1950s (El viento, La tristeza and Esta mujer que soy) and sets out to reflect on the way in which the poetic subject is configured in them, examining at the same time the imaginative strategies employed by the author in relation to the most relevant thematic issues. Born in 1915 in Barcelona (the city where she also died in 1990), Susana March began her literary career in 1938 with the publication of Rutas, followed in the next decade by La pasión desvelada, Ardiente voz and Polvo en la tierra. These books and the three examined here, in addition to another written early on but not published until 1987 (Poemas de la Plaza Real), make up her entire poetic oeuvre, for although she was a poet by vocation, life circumstances led her to the cultivation of narrative to the detriment of poetry. As was the case with many other women authors, after a very good critical reception, she disappeared from literary history. This exhibition is, therefore, not only a particular analysis of the texts, but also a way of contributing to the rescue of her figure.
