ON GODS, NYNPHS AND HEROES: THE CHISELLED BODY IN THE POETRY OF ROSA CHACEL

Resumen

La poesía de Rosa Chacel, que bebe al mismo tiempo de las fuentes de la tradición y de la vanguardia, canaliza el pensamiento estético de la escritora, muy influido por su formación escultórica y plástica. En este trabajo se analiza la forma en la que su concepción de la belleza se concreta en sus versos a través de la dimensión corporal. Bajo una tupida red de referencias artísticas y literarias y con una visión marcada por los ideales de armonía y desnudez del arte grecorromano, la autora construye una arquitectura verbal pulida y reluciente en la que el elemento simbólico tiene una importancia transcendental. A través de una poesía de gran exigencia formal, Rosa Chacel cuestiona oposiciones imperantes como vida / cultura o cuerpo / mente mediante una poética que, como la filosofía antigua, tiene en el humanismo su razón de ser.

Abstract: The poetry of Rosa Chacel, that imbibes simultaneously from the sources of the tradition as the avant-garde, canalizes the aesthetic thinking of the writer, highly influenced by her visual and sculptural formation. This paper analyzes the form in which her conception of beauty is concretized in her verses through the corporal dimension. Below a dense artistic and literary reference network and together with a vision marked by the beauty ideal of harmony and nudity of Greco-Roman art, the author build a refined and shinning verbal architecture in which the symbolic element has a transcendental importance. Through a poetry of great formal commitment, Rosa Chacel query prevailing oppositions as life / culture or body / mind by using a poetics that, like ancient philosophy, finds his raison d’être in humanism.
