Abstract

The publication of Anthony Steinbock's 1995 book on generativity (Home and Beyond: Generative Phenomenology after Husserl) opened lines of research that at the time were not well documented. The publication of much of the work of both Edmund Husserl (in Husserliana) and Martin Heidegger (in the Gesamtausgabe) in recent decades has confirmed and extended what Steinbock anticipated, especially with regard to the place of the thematization of the "lifeworld" (Lebenswelt). The present article unfolds some of the confluences between the two phenomenologists, especially in the 1930s, on the basis of historical meditation. The aim is not only to understand the idea of generative phenomenology in other ways, but also to confirm the fact that the phenomenological enterprise can indeed be apprehended as a concrete generational work.
