Abstract

In 1914, Fernando Pessoa collected together 300 Portuguese proverbs. In the sixteenth century, Juan de Valdés had integrated 146 diff erent forms of proverbs in his Diálogo de la lengua. These two refraneros, diff erent as for the time and the language, share much, for the content, the syntax and for the rhythmic forms they cultivate. This study is an attempt to describe the various forms of rhymes and specifi c rhythms. We examin the concept of repetition, as used in rhetoric treatises, which allows us to focus on the various aspects of the notion of echo. For reasons of prosody, it is up to the locutor to distinguish the phonological structure of the words from the phonetic structure of the sentence, resorting to the meeting of two vowels.
