In this article, the author carries out a review of the contributions made by psychoanalysis to the public mental health sector. The review gathers together theoretical contributions on the understanding of mental functioning and its applications to clinical practice, both from the aspect of the patient-therapist relationships and from the aspect of the different psychotherapeutic techniques which have a psychoanalytical orientation.
