Sex therapy has developed through the ages from many different vantagepoints, which have included diverse psychological, biological and medical paradigms. It behooves us to at times to begin our clinical analysis of any given presenting sexual problem with a functional definition, since such problems can originate from a variety of personal, interpersonal and biological factors; our definition of the problem helps to subsequently determine the preferred line of intervention.
