This first essay presents the development of what is known today as educational software. A brief tour is made from the first productions in the sixties to the end of the twentieth century. The production of educational software has been in great
demand by society for at least three reasons: 1). The great demand for education and the scarce possibility offered by the institutions; 2). Because a few years ago, a pandemic forced institutions to implement distance education, taking advantage of
all the resources of digital technology and 3). Because of the vertiginous development and popularization of digital technologies. Despite the above, there is still a long way to go in producing real educational software that produces meaningful learning and intelligence in users. This should not surprise us, given that face-to-face education, at least in the teaching of mathematics, still has serious deficiencies, as shown by various international indicators.
