Abstract

Occidental society has established a capitalist model of overconsumption. In the public sphere, this policy has changed the landscape of big cities, with very few green or recreation areas, where citizens can live without having to consume. In response, some neighbourhood communities have created new spaces. In Madrid, Spain, there are two initiatives in the neighbourhoods of La Latina (Campo de Cebada) and Lavapiés (Ésta es una plaza). Within a Project of Innovation and Improvement of Teaching Quality, we have discussed these initiatives with university students from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The goal is to know the artivism as a tool of political transformation and to establish creative and collaborative networks for better academic and personal development.
