Uno de los grandes intereses de las Humanidades Digitales es la sinergia entre herramientas tecnológicas y tareas u objetos humanísticos, así como la consecuente preservación del patrimonio histórico y cultural sea cual sea su soporte. El resultado más inmediato de esta simbiosis es la contribución a diferentes campos del conocimiento a través, por ejemplo, de la creación de herramientas en pro de la investigación. El equipo de investigación responsable del proyecto READ creó en 2016 Transkribus, una plataforma de transcripción asistida concebida para mejorar las técnicas de reconocimiento de texto manuscrito (HTR). Sus metas, tal y como delata el nombre del proyecto, son el reconocimiento y el enriquecimiento del material de archivo.
