Abstract

Al abordar el problema de la inmigración extranjera en España, surge siempre la misma pregunta: «¿Cuál es el volumen real?», «¿Cuántas son las personas de nacionalidad extranjera que viven entre nosotros?». La respuesta es por fuerza imprecisa. El tema es confuso y la información fragmentaria e incompleta: Por una parte, contamos con las estadísticas de Extranjeros Residentes en España realizadas por la Dirección General de Policía y recogidas por el INE, donde se incluye a la mayor parte de los que se encuentran en situación regular. Por otra, existen distintas situaciones dentro del marco legal no bien registradas y difíciles de cuantificar en su totalidad. Por último, está la población que no se inscribe en ningún tipo de registro, los «indocumentados », «ilegales», extranjeros que se encuentran en España en situación irregular, imposibles de medir.
