Abstract

During the first half of the 1st century BC the geto-dacians became the greatest superpower of Eastern Europe under the leadership of one of their most famous kings: Burebista. After founding the Dacian Estate through the unification of the diverse geto-dacian tribes, Burebista led his people to build an authentic ‘empire’ that stretched from the middle Danube course to the western Black Sea coast, and from nowadays Slovakia to the limits of Tracia and Dalmatia. Through the main literary, epigraphical and archaeological sources we are going to analyse the expansionist process accomplished by Burebista, its premises, causes, sequence of events and consequences.
