This paper is an introduction to the study of this poem, in relation to Anglo-Saxon poetry immediately prior to the rise of literary romanticism. To do so, we reveal some technical details that remained forgotten, relegated or ignored by previous analysis, mainly the comparison between the English and Spanish metrics. In this case, we will focus specifi cally on some affi nities with Thomas Gray’s Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, and with Lord Byron’s Lines Written Beneath an Elm in the Churchyard of Harrowon- the-Hill.
