The main concern of German thinking in the 19th century is the problem of nihilism. A new concept of education (Bildung) is therefore needed. Hölderlin plays a main role in young Nietzsche´s approach to this problem, first of all in the general Kulturkritik and the criticism of the Bildungsphilistertum, and then in the problem of the Classics and how we should deal with them. This article will try to present the relation between Hölderlin´s influence on Nietzsche´s concern, as well as the point at which Nietzsche diverges from him.
