Author Guidelines

Comunitania accepts manuscripts in both English and Spanish for anonymous peer review.

All manuscripts must be submitted to Comunitania by email at (comunitania@comunitania.com) in Microsoft Word format using size 10.5 Arial font.

All original articles or papers will be sent with no reference to the identity of the author or authors and accompanied by a separate file containing a brief CV (around 50 words) of the author or authors including full name and corresponding email addresses.

Articles that have been accepted for publication will appear in the section titled “Upcoming Articles” following approval of the galley proofs by the authors and the Executive Board of Comunitania. No changes may be made to the articles following their publication. The date the article was received, accepted and published on-line will appear at the end of each article. The corresponding author will receive the galley proof and be responsible for the final version of the published articles.

Comunitania. Revista Internacional de Trabajo Social y Ciencias Sociales is an academic journal that seeks two fundamental aims. Firstly, to publish articles of the highest standards, which are of scientific relevance to the field of social work and the social sciences. Secondly, to provide a forum for debate in which to address the main issues and challenges arising in social work and social science research. Since its creation, the Department of Social Work of the Faculty of Law at the National Distance Learning University (UNED) at Madrid, Spain, has been responsible for the journal’s publication. Comunitania has a clear international vocation as reflected in the members of its editorial board and its desire to publish rigorous research conducted worldwide in the sphere of social work and the social sciences.

Publication guidelines:
Comunitania is an independent, bilingual journal that publishes articles in both Spanish and English. Adhering to the standards of excellence established by the scientific community, all articles submitted to the journal will be peer reviewed. All original manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two external referees, whose suggestions and recommendations will be sent to the author(s) to make the pertinent modifications when needed. Comunitania ensures the anonymity of both author(s) and referees. The Comunitania Board of Editors will examine all the manuscripts submitted and, based on the external evaluations, decide to accept or reject the submission. Comunitania reserves the right to reject articles that do not comply with minimum standards of quality. Authors will be notified if their manuscript has been accepted or rejected within a maximum period of six months.

Comunitania accepts the following works for publication:

– Original articles or manuscripts. . Maximum length: 10,000 words. Articles must include, at least, the following sections: abstract, keywords, introduction, discussion, conclusion and references.
– Research notes. . Maximum length: 4,000 words. Research notes must include, at least, the following sections: abstract, keywords, introduction, discussion, conclusion and references.
– Book reviews. Works that discuss, analyze or evaluate recent publications of recognized interest to the field of social work and the social sciences. Maximum length: 3,000 words.

Comunitania accepts comments and replies to the articles it publishes for their evaluation and publication. Maximum length: 3,000 words.

Articles and research notes must be accompanied by an abstract in Spanish and an abstract in English, each with a maximum length of 150 words. All articles, research notes or book reviews submitted to Comunitania must not have been previously published elsewhere and must not be pending publication in any other journal.

While respecting the opinions of its collaborators, the views, statements and content of the articles, research notes and book reviews published in Comunitania do not necessarily reflect those of the journal.

Citations and references in Comunitania:
Comunitania’s publication guidelines adhere to the style guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style. 2003. 15th ed. Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press. The main guidelines that should be taken into account when submitting articles, research notes or book reviews to Comunitania are as follows:

– Notes: Always place notes at the bottom of the page and never at the end of the manuscript. Number all footnotes with Arabic numerals sequentially. Footnotes may not exceed 80 words.

– Citations in the body of the text:

o One author: (Touraine 2007)
o A specific page of a publication: (Touraine 2007: 6)
o Works by the same author in the same year: (Touraine 2007a; 2007b)
o Two or three authors: (Boltanski and Chiappello 1999)
o More than three authors: (Turner et al. 1987)

– The references used, that is, only those that are cited in the text, should appear at the end of the manuscript, be double-spaced and listed in alphabetical order by last name and first name of the author.

– Figures: Must be presented separately from the text and numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals. The source of the data used to produce the figure must appear at the bottom of the page. Lines and bars appearing in the figures must be of an appropriate size and thickness in the event that they need to be reduced to adhere to the page size of the journal. Standard signs should be explained at the bottom of the page. All photographs and images must be clear. Figures must be submitted in TIFF or JPEG format with a minimum resolution of 300 pixels per inch. Figures may not take up more than one page.

– Statistical graphs and charts: All graphs and charts must have a brief title. They may not take up more than one page and must be numbered separately with Arabic numerals. A footnote must be included at the bottom of the page documenting the source of the data that has been used to produce the graph or chart. Tables, charts, images, maps and graphic elements, in general, should be submitted in their original format and not imported to Word, including references as to their location. All graphs and charts must be in black and white or gray scale.
