Focus and Scope

Comunitania. International Journal of Social Work and Social Sciences is an academic journal that seeks two fundamental aims:

Firstly, to publish articles of the highest standards, which are of scientific relevance to the field of social work and the social sciences.
Secondly, to provide a forum for debate in which to address the main issues and challenges arising in social work and social science research. Since its creation, the Department of Social Work of the Faculty of Law at the National Distance Learning University (UNED) at Madrid, Spain, has been responsible for the journal’s publication. Comunitania has a clear international vocation as reflected in the members of its editorial board and its desire to publish rigorous research conducted worldwide in the sphere of social work and the social sciences.

Comunitania. International Journal of Social Work and Social Sciences is published twice yearly in January and June by the Department of Social Work of the Faculty of Law at the National Distance Learning University (UNED).

Ethical Code

Comunitania aspires to become a journal of reference in the fields of social work and the social sciences. With this goal in mind, Comunitania has established an ethical code based on the following principles:

  1. Originality. Authors must submit original manuscripts for review and not a work that has been previously published or is under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  2. Plagiarism or self-plagiarism. Authors must cite their sources and not replicate their own previously published works.
  3. Rigorous and anonymous peer review process. Comunitania ensures the anonymity and independence of external reviewers and the timeliness of the review process. Reviewers with a conflict of interest or who feel that they are not adequately qualified to review the manuscript may choose to abstain from the review process.
  4. Conflicts of interest. To avoid conflicts of interest, authors, editors and reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest that may arise and abstain from  the process.
  5. Authorship and co-authorship of manuscripts. All co-authors should have made significant contributions to the research, data analysis, and drafting of the manuscript submitted for review.
  6. Free access. Comunitania provides free access to all contents immediately following publication.
  7. Human subjects. Authors are responsible for protecting and preserving the privacy, well-being, and freedom of human subjects.
  8. Confidentiality. Comunitania ensures the confidentiality of the manuscripts and will not disclose any information exchanged between reviewers and Comunitania or between authors and Comunitania.
