Abstract

This invited article, part of the special issue on Social Work and Critical Perspectives of the Comunitania Journal, aims to amplify, within the academic context, the voices of those at the centre of critical social work perspectives: the people who receive social work services, social work professionals, and the students who are learning and preparing for the profession. The authors, Ana de Anta, Elisenda Ribes, and Gema Fernández, share their perspectives on the importance and strengths of critical social work, as well as the challenges it faces in being relevant both in professional contexts and in the lives of people involved in social work interventions. The reflections presented here remind those of us who claim to promote critical perspectives in social intervention of the essential and nonnegotiable need to continuously adapt, learn, listen, and move forward hand in hand with its true protagonists.
