Depression is a public health problem that impairs quality of life. The aim of the study was to examine the construct validity and internal consistency of the PHQ-9 in a sample of Colombian non-clinical participants. The questionnaire was completed online by 1413 participants (mean age = 34.1 years, ranged 18-76). The results show that the PHQ-9 has a bifactorial structure whose model retains all items and presents adequate goodness-of-fit indices. Internal consistency showed a satisfactory index for the total scale (ωh = .83). From the results obtained, it is concluded that this Spanish version of the PHQ-9 has adequate psychometric properties, and its use is recommended for assessing depression in the Colombian adult population.
