Mobility and cyclist accident rate in some spanish cities

The sustained increase in the use of the bicycle connects with the growing sensitivity of citizens with health and sustainable mobility. To the practice of sports and leisure is added their adoption as a means of daily transport especially in urban areas, where the risk of accidents and injuries could be increases. Although their number is still very small in relation to total accidents and victims in Spain, the proportion among them grows with a higher rate of increase in urban areas, and the greatest severity occurs on interurban roads. If the trend continues, it is necessary more studies of the phenomenon devoted to identify its most important characteristics for the design and implementation of appropriate measures to achieve the necessary improvements. This work focuses on the characterization of cycling accidents in Spain between 2000 and 2020. A comparative study carried out in the Spanish urban area and in four selected cities.
