Author Guidelines

Any researcher from any institution can present their work for consideration to RHD. The articles for RHD will be sent through this platform, where the authors will register to make the submission: http://revistas.uned.es/index.php/RHD/login.

RHD uses the APA standards as a model and guide for bibliographic references. A detailed description can be found at: https://www.ucentral.edu.co/sites/default/files/inline-files/guia-normas-apa-7-ed-2020-08-12.pdf

The papers will be presented in *.doc, *.docx, *.odt or *.rtf format. The body of the text will be written in Arial typeface, 12pt. and line spacing 1.5, while the notes will be in 10pt. with simple line spacing. The margins will be the default ones. There is no extra spacing between paragraphs. For tables and images, the format will be *.jpeg.

The maximum length of the ARTICLES will be 10,000 words, that of the research NOTES 7.000, publications in other experimental formats (interviews and other formats that include audio, video or interactive material, etc.) 5,000 words, and that of the REVIEWS between 1,000 and 3,000 words.

The article should preferably be written in Spanish although contributions will be received in other languages such as Portuguese, English, French or Italian.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ARTICLES

IMPORTANT: use this template to submit the work: RHD-art-plantilla-modelo

1. No information about the author should be included in the body of the text. The author’s personal data will be completed on the platform, in the registry, as a step prior to sending. As a preliminary step to submission, the ORCID must be included. If you don't have one, it can be obtained from: https://orcid.org/

2. The first page of the article will include the title of the article in Spanish (or another language in which the article is written) and in English, as well as an abstract of 10 lines in both languages and 5 key words in Spanish and English. For choosing keywords, use the Taxonomía de Actividades de Investigación Digital en Humanidades (TADIRAH), Spanish version: https://www.vocabularyserver.com/tadirah/es/index.php. English version: https://www.vocabularyserver.com/tadirah/en/index.php. For other languages see: https://github.com/dhtaxonomy/TaDiRAH.

3. Each of the paragraphs of the work must be preceded by a 1.25cm indentation, as well as the main and secondary headings.

4. The numbering of the sections (sections and sub-sections) will be organized as follows:

a) The main heading, in bold and capital letters: Example: 2. STATE OF THE ART

b) The following, in bold and lowercase: Example: 2.1. The Digital Humanities through scientific journals

c) The following, in italics and lowercase letters: Example: 2.1.1. The Digital Humanities in RHD

d) The following, in print: Example: 2.1.1.1. The first issue of the magazine

5. Double spacing will be left between paragraph, title of the heading and new paragraph.

6. The notes will appear at the bottom of the page. The notes references inside the text will be indicated with correlative numbering in superscript. The notes will be used for clarifying comments, web pages (preceded by See:), not to indicate bibliographic references, which will be made in the body of the text, following the APA format, as will be indicated later. These footnotes will go in Arial font, 10pt. and simple line spacing, without indentation. There will be no blank space between notes.

7. Long quotes inside the text go in Arial letter, 11pt., and will be marked with an indentation of 2.5 for the whole of the quote, not only the first line, without quotation marks and in single space. Double spacing will be left at the beginning and at the end of each quote. The bibliographic reference at the end of these long citations must go before the corresponding punctuation mark, in the following way:

As I've argued at length elsewhere, the field that offers the most immediate analogy to bibliography and textual criticism in the electronic sphere is computer forensics, which deals with authenticating, stabilizing, and recovering digital data. [...] Digital forensics is the point of practice at which media archeology and digital humanities intersect (Kirschenbaum, 2013, p.31).

The omission of text from a quote will be indicated by three points in brackets [...]

8. Punctuation marks (period, comma, etc.) will be placed after quotation marks or references. Examples: "shipments": and "shipments"².

9. Use italics (not quotation marks or underlining) to highlight a word or phrase inside the text. Quotation marks will not be used for this purpose, nor underlined. The quotation marks will be used only for quotes of up to three lines and article titles (or similar). Double quotation marks (" ") should be used. If there are quotation marks inside quotation marks, single quotes (' ') will be used inside. For example: "As a general rule 'English quotation marks' should be used. Only in the case of quotes within quotation marks can you use 'single quotes' ".

10. The tables and figures will be included in the corresponding place within the text, centered, leaving a blank space at the beginning and at the end of each figure or table. They must be numbered as "Table 1. Name of the table" or "Figure 1. Name of the figure", without abbreviations, with Arabic characters consecutively according to their appearance in the text, and with the title in the lower part. The title will be in Times New Roman 10pt, also centered and pasted, without leaving any space and with simple line spacing, to the image.

11. Em Dash (long dash) will be used only for explanatory explanation (like a parenthesis) attached to the first and the last character of the period that they frame, and separated by a space of the element that precedes them or follows them: "The second music festival is –how to put it in doubt! – the most important musical event of the year". However, if what follows the closing line is another punctuation marks, no space is left between the two: "To be distracted, –he said–, "to be distracted."

12. The system of bibliographic citations within the text will faithfully follow the APA7 format described in the following document: https://www.ucentral.edu.co/sites/default/files/inline-files/guia-normas-apa -7-ed-2020-08-12.pdf

13. Please check an item as sample back issues of this magazine if you have any questions regarding the format.

14. Project names, websites, software, extensions and applications named in the body of the text and notes to the foot, do not carry italics or quotation marks, they will go on round.

15. If the work sent is part of a research project, I recommend you point it in a note to the foot and at the end of the article and before the bibliography open a section Credits appoint employees of the work, following the taxonomy of Credit in Spanish: http://vocabularios.caicyt.gov.ar/credit/es/index.php

ORDER OF SIGNATURE IN MULTIPLE-AUTHORED PAPERS

In multi-authored papers it will be understood, if not otherwise specified, that the first author position is assigned to the person making the largest contribution, as is common practice. However, if authors adopt a different method or wish to specify the contributions of subsequent authors, they should do so in a footnote.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AN EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE USE OF LANGUAGE

For Spanish we take as a reference the working document prepared by Ana Costa, which can be consulted at this link.

For English we follow the Milton Keynes College Guide for Inclusive Language.

Example of electronic review

Initial correction

The editor of the journal will edit the text in order to improve fluency, clarity, grammar and also the vocabulary and format, as well as to add any necessary queries to the author(s). Once the initial edition is completed, the corrector will upload the revised document through the journal's website and notify the author that the edited manuscript is ready for review.

Before initiating drastic changes in the structure and organization of the edited manuscript, the authors should check with the editors who else directs the work. Authors should accept/reject any changes made during the initial correction, as appropriate, and respond to all inquiries. At the end of the reviews, the authors should rename the file from AuthorNameCA.doc to AuthorAuthorNameCAR.doc (eg from LeeCA.doc to LeeCAR.doc) and upload the revised document through the journal's website, as indicated.

Final correction.

The editor of the journal will verify the changes made by the author and will incorporate the answers to the author's queries to create the final manuscript. Once finished, the corrector will upload the final document through the magazine’s website and will notify the layout editor to finish adjusting the format.
