Abstract

This paper analyses generally the treatment of the secession of states of international
organizations, and the European Union, and territories of sovereign states. To this
end we analyze the international law, European Union law, and the internal law. And in such
analysis yields several conclusions. On the one hand, the European Union through its Article
50 has divised a peaceful separation system and Member States agreed to European Union
should serve as an example. Moreover, it is concluded that in international law, in European
Union law and Spanish law claims can not be based secessionist Spanish territories. Finally,
the conclusion is reached that both centralist and peripheral nationalisms are contrary to the
values and principles which have served to build the European Union.
