Los pigmeos en las fuentes griegas: entre la etnografía y la leyenda

Este trabajo es un estudio filológico y etnográfico de los pigmeos en el mundo griego. Los textos griegos antiguos oscilan entre la realidad y la fantasía, algo que llevó a autores posteriores, hasta hace relativamente poco, a considerar a los pigmeos como parte de un mundo irreal. Homero daba por sentada su existencia, pero Estrabón no. En medio de estas posturas y controversias extremas, emerge la figura de Aristóteles. Sin una experiencia directa, analizó científicamente la cuestión del tamaño de los pigmeos, que tanta curiosidad había suscitado en el mundo antiguo, aplicando correctamente los conceptos de proporción y adaptación al entorno.
Es necesario ahondar en las fuentes griegas para encontrar un testimonio personal en el relato de los viajes de Nonoso, recogido por el patriarca Focio.
