Matters of etiquette and preferences

The importance of protocol and ceremonial in Spain at the end of the 19th century is discussed, highlighting its relevance in various conflicts between military, civilian and judicial authorities. The word preference was used as the equivalent of precedence and etiquette as ceremonial rules, and in the absence of recourse to contentious-administrative jurisdiction, the place to settle disputes was the Council of State.
