Abstract

We present the traditional protocol of paying tribute to a distinguished sailor: the Admiral of Sicily and Grand Admiral of the Crown of Aragon Roger de Lauria. The ceremony consisted of depositing a laurel wreath on his tomb, by the commander of the Navy ship that docked in the port of Tarragona. We analyze the relationship between protocol and law and custom as a source of protocol. We discuss maritime ceremonial and homage to heroes.
