The death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on December 31, 2022, although expected, surprised everyone. The first news was leaked by Pope Francis at the general audience on Wednesday, the 28th in the Nervi Room or also called Paul VI. The Holy See was facing a different funeral, it was no longer a reigning pope, nor was it the head of State of Vatican City, since with his effective resignation on February 28, 2013, the Apostolic See had remained a Vacant See. There are many signs, symbols and actions that characterize the actions of the central government of the Catholic Church. The wealth of all of them is always impressive. It is about being able to view and contextualize the details of the rites, the ceremonies and the protocol that takes place before the death of a Roman Pontiff, very similar to any other, but which has many different nuances that make it its own and different.
