Abstract

In this paper we will consider the relationship between the monism of the divine substance and the pluralism of the parts of the continuum in Leibniz’s 1675-76’s metaphysical writings. This point of view differs from Andreas Blank’s considerations regarding the general relationship between monism-pluralism. Nevertheless, both theories are compatible. To show this relationship, we will first consider the approach regarding the maximum in the continuum, distinguishing between two kinds, one of which has not been considered before. Then, we will analyze the ontological status of matter, as an actual —but not substantial— existing thing. Finally, we will consider the theory regarding the parts of the continuum as infinite and as the result of an endless division.
