Among the problems raised by the lecture of the Homeric epic poems, stands out one relating to the somatic unit of the characters. One of the options considered to resolve it, which consists in assign to the term χρώς this function, being noticed but commonly dismissed, is defended in this paper. To that effect, it is necessary to take into account the right criterion, which lies in giving the due relevance to the protagonists’ mythological figuration, because it confers to them their correspondent selfhood, in the guise of epiphanies, into a poetical and religious account.
