Abstract

One of the challenges present in the development of the social work profession is to evolve together with the social reality. In this sense, this paper leads to a reflection that favors the intervention of this professional in an area that is currently having a high presence in society, based on the development of professional work in the area of thanatology. To this end, fundamental theoretical and conceptual aspects for the professional work of the social worker in this area are taken up, as well as the main references of the so-called "science that studies death", highlighting a series of characteristics that must be considered in the profile of the social worker in thanatology, considering the importance it has for the development of the profession, as well as the elements that guide towards an intervention based on today's social needs
